I guess telling yourself is not enough. Get to know it - read and practice
it. If there is a temple nearby, it will be a good idea to visit it
regularly. But don't follow anything blindly. Get to know the reasons
behind each ritual and celebrations etc.
A good start is reading the Bhagavad Gita and deciding which direction to
take - (i.e. which yoga - bhakti, karma, jnana, dyana). For this kali age
namasmarana (meditating on the name of the lord) is said to be the best -
i.e. bhakti. Here I mean bhakti is the most prominent, but the other
three are close behind too.
