Hindus: Countrywise Statistics
HINDUISM is the religion of 13.3% of humanity.
Of the world's 725 million Hindus, 684m. (94%) live in India,
16.9m. (2%) in Nepal,
13.7m. (2%) in Bangladesh,
3.5m. in Indonesia (most of them on Bali),
2.65m. in Sri Lanka, 1.25m. in Malaysia.
Hindus are the majority in Nepal, 89% of the people;
in India, 80%; and
in Mauritius, 52%.
They are sizable minorities in the South Pacific island of Fiji, 38%;
the Caribbean states of Guyana, 37%,
Suriname, 27%, and
Trinidad and Tobago, 24%;
and in Bhutan, 24%;
Sri Lanka, 15%;
Bangladesh, 12%;
Malaysia, 7%; and
Singapore, 5%.
There are 650,000 Hindus in South Africa, 2% of the population;
550,000 in the U.S. (0.2%),
and 80,000 in Canada (0.3%).
Before the Gulf War, there were 40,000 (2%) in Kuwait.
