FeTNA's Tamil Essay competition for Youth
Tamil is an ancient language and has a continuous literary tradition for
more than 2000 years. The Tamils also have a rich cultural heritage and
have taken them with them to places they migrated to. The Tamil culture is
a part of the Dravidian culture which dates back to 2500 BC and is
believed to be related to the Indus Valley civilzation. The life style
and ethical codes of the Tamils in the Sangam and post-Sangam era are
sofisticated and is evident from the early writings such as sangam
poetry and the later epics. Today, the luxuriant heritage of Tamil
culture is slowly becoming "a thing of the past" amongst our younger
generation. However, there is a new awakening of Tamil heritage in
North America through the auspices of the Federation of Tamil Sangams of
North America (FeTNA).
