URGENT!!!! PLEASE ACT IMMEDIATELY!!!!
We, the undersigned, are the members of the Hindu Anti-defamation
Coalition of America, and are also long-time customers of your stores all
over the country. The Hindu community consists of over 2 million strong
in this country.
Recently, Columbia/Sony has released a new CD by rock group Aerosmith called
"Nine Lives". This CD has a cover which is a VERY DISTORTED AND
VERY INSULTING depiction of the pastimes of LORD KRISHNA, the Hindu God,
whom millions of Hindus worship all over the world.
It is clear to us that Columbia and Aerosmith distorted and defaced the
original, ancient and
UNIVERSALLY REVERED picture which shows Lord Krishna conquering the great
serpent, Kalinag. In distorting the picture, the Columbia/Aerosmith team
placed a head of a cat in place of Lord Krishna's. This is not only outrageous
beyond any measure but also very insulting to the entire Hindu community
worldwide. The distorted version also showing Krishna wearing a blouse
is extremely offensive.
This CD cover chosen by Columbia/Aerosmith is analogous to showing Lord
Jesus on the cross with a cat's head wearing a blouse. No offense to Jesus
Christ, but to explain to you the seriousness of the outrageous act of
Columbia/Aerosmith, we had to draw this fictional analogy. We are sure
such depiction of Christ would most certainly outrage you. We are equally
outraged by the fact that Columbia/Aerosmith has committed such a heinous
act and are actually using your store as a medium to distribute their hateful
and outrageous product.
On behalf of the entire Hindu community we ask that you IMMEDIATELY STOP
SALE OF THIS CD THROUGH YOUR STORES IN THE U.S.
We know that in the past your store has pulled off from the shelves certain
CDs for specific reasons. We urge you to do the same for this CD.
If you do not have such a policy, we request that you formulate such and
implement it immediately.
However, should you decide not to do so, the Hindu community will be forced
to picket and boycott your stores. It is very likely that legal action
will be taken against Columbia/Sony/Aerosmith, and it is possible that
your company may be included as a defendant in such action.
We trust that you will not be a party to this outrageous conduct of SONY/Columbia/Aerosmith.
