: Could someone point me to the Hindu source where the chatter of one's mind is referred to as "the drunken monkey." Thanks kindly.

Response:

In the Bhagavad Gita (chapter 6, verse 35), Sri Krishna says, “The mind is restless and difficult to control; but through practice and dispassion (renunciation) it can be conquered.” It is possible that while explaining this verse of the Bhagavad Gita some saint or scholar may have likened the restless mind to a drunken monkey. Other than that, I am not aware of any direct reference to a drunken monkey in Hindu scriptures.
