"Hinduism in the Modern World"
by Shree Bansi Pandit
7:00 - 9:00 P.M.
Shree Bansi Pandit received a Masters degree in nuclear engineering
from Northwestern University. He is a senior Project Engineer with
Sargent & Lundy Engineers, Chicago. Shree Pandit is a student of
Vedanta and has been associated with the Vivekananda Vedanta Society
for over twenty years. In 1981 he joined the Self-Realization
Fellowship founded in the United States by Paramahansa Yogananda. He
was initiated into Kriya Yoga in the spiritual lineage of Paramahansa
Yogananda in 1983. He stayed in several ashrams in India practicing
yoga and meditation.
Shree Pandit has published numerous articles illustrating various
aspects of the Hindu religious and spiritual teachings. He has taught
Sunday school and spoken at numerous religious gatherings. His nuclear
engineering background helps him to explain the scientific basis of
Hindu religious beliefs and practices.
Shree Pandit is the author of the popular book The Hindu Mind,
Fundamentals of Hindu Religion & Philosophy For All Ages. This book
was published in August of 1992 and was sold out the same year. A
fully revised and second edition of this work is now available.
In his talk "Hinduism in the Modern World", Shree Pandit will
discuss basic concepts in Hinduism and how they apply to our lives
today. A reception will be held following the talk. Autographed
copies of his book The Hindu Mind, second edition, can be purchased.

Significance of Bindi (dot on the forehead), reverance for the
cow and all creatures, the caste system, polytheism.
* Hindu Deities and Sacred Texts
Hindu deities in a prayer setting. Prasad will be served. Vedas,
Upanishads, Bhagvad Gita, Mahabharata, Ramayana.
* Famous Hindu Personalities
Biographies and pictures of well known Hindu personalities -
Mahatma Gandhi, Swami Vivekananda, Meerabai, Sharda Devi.
* Architecture and Landmarks
Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh Temples in India, U.S. and
around the world; Ajanta, Ellora & Elephanta caves, Ganga
(Ganges), Himalayas.
* Hindu Contributions to Literature, Arts, and Sciences
Classical musical instruments, dance forms, and introduction to
well known artists. Literature: Rabindranath Tagore. Music
demonstrations at 6:45 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. Hindu contributions
to Astronomy, Math and Sciences.
* Indian snacks will be served
* Books and Tee shirts on Hindu themes will be sold
