Hi, my name is Nancy Hong. I'm a student at Southern Methodist University in
Dallas. Currently, I'm enrolled in a Hindu religion class and am assigned to
do a research paper on the topic. As the semester progress, I'm learning more
about Hindu mythology and I'm fascinated about Indian traditions, ritualistic
precepts and sacrificial duties. So I thought it would be interesting to learn
about the general conscious of the contemporary Hindu life style around the
world, especially in the U.S. I hope to do a survey from the perspective of
an anthopolosgist.
I hope you would take some time to e-mail me of your thoughts regarding the
following questions. My e-mail address is nhong@sun.cis.smu.edu. I appreciate
your sharing your thoughts very much. I also am open for suggestions on ways
I can make this project an enjoyable event. Thank you (You may remain anonymousif you wish!)
1. Does mythology pretty much still describe the culture in India? How easy
or difficult is it for a family to keep the tradition in the modern days,
especially in the US?
2. What impact does Hindu mythology have on the contemporary Hindu
consciousness?
3. Under what circumstances were you told myths and what kinds of myths were
you told?
4. About how old were you when your family started to educate you about the
Hindu religion?
5. How do Hindu beliefs impact your daily life, for example, at the workplace,
in the social settings, and how you select your mates?
6. Would you categorize yourself as a "100%" believer?
