Perhaps, an interesting derivation ...
One of Shri Guru Nanak's ancestors had studied the Ved(a) from a
brahman from Varanasi. He therefore assumed the title "Vedi". Since "V"
gets transformed "B", in later days, his family name became "Bedi".
Also, Hindus from northern Bharat pronounce "Krishna" as "Kishan".
"Vishnu" therefore may be pronounced as "Bishanu" or just "Bishan".
The appelation "Singh", as is known, stands for "Simha" (Lion).
The name of the cricket player, Bishan Singh Bedi, could have been
"Vishnu Simha Vedi", a pure Vedic/Sanskrit name!
Hari Om.
