Dear alt.config readers (and others),
We are proposing discussion on and creation of a new newsgroup in the
religion hierarchy called alt.religion.vaisnava
Vaisnavas are people who follow the monotheistic system of the Vedas
without speculative interpretation via mundane logic. The Vedic religion is
the oldest religious system known to man -- the Sanatana Dharma -- where
'sanatana' is a sanskrit world meaning begningless or eternal. Followers
of the Vedic System are sometimes referred to as Hindus, but Vaisnavas
are indeed in a distinct class as they ackwnowledge that the ultimate
conclusion of the Vedic scriptures is transcendental loving devotional
service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is known by many
names such as Krishna and Vishnu.
The Vaisnavas accept all of the Vedic literature as the basis for their
religion, including the Vedas, the Upanishads, the Vedanta Sutras, the
Puranas, especifically the Srimad-Bhagavatam, and the Bhagavad-Gita. In
the Vedic tradition, the scriptural knowledge contained therein is to be
passed down only from a bona fide spiritual master to a sincere devotee.
Accordingly, the Vaisnavas only accept translations/explanations of
spiritual knowledge from a bona fide spiritual master in a line of
disciplic succession originating from the Supreme Personality of Godhead
Himself! One example of an authentic disciplic succession is the Gaudiya
Vaisnava sampradaya which is based upon the 'sankirtan movement' --
congregational chanting of the Holy names -- and has received worldwide
recognition as a genuine spiritual tradition. There is however considerable
variegatedness among the Vaisnavas of the sampradayas of Ramanuja, Madhava,
and Chaitanya.
Although many American alt.config readers may have never heard of
Vaisnavism, rest assured that it is a very widely followed religion, with
millions of devotees in India and elsewhere. There are also Vaisnava
temples and followers in major cities throughout the world.
I request system administrators to accept our request for a new
unmoderated newsgroup. We have thoroughly read the FAQ's posted in
this group and feel that our format & name corresponds totally with the
suggested patterns. There is no other group available for us, and
any attempts at mailing lists seem to grow exponentially by the day,
and are still not able to reach all interested parties.
This message is crossposted to certain related groups that deal with
the religions and eastern religions and culture.
