Although it is a good idea, I take exception at the name and have a few
suggestions.
There is no such thing as the "hindu dharma". It is a misnomer.
All the people in that geographical location (including vaisnavas, shivas,
smartas, etc. and even naasticks!) were lumped into the category of "hindu"
by the invaders. So techinically, everyone from India is a hindu, the term
is identical to American, French, Indian, etc.
Even going by the current practices in the Indian community, the so called
hinduism is reduced a mere cultural thing.
So if you want to be in the soc.something hierarchy with hindu in it, a
correct name would be soc.culture.hindu
If you want to be in the soc.religion.something hierarchy, the correct name
would be -- soc.religion.sanatana -- because thats what the religion
was and is.
