Agreed! After all what interest could be more special than Krishna consciousness.
Krishna consciousness and the devotees are the rarest of the rare:
manusyanam sahasresu, kascid yatati siddhaye
yatatam api siddhanam, kascin mam vetti tattvatah [BG 7.3]
(Out of thousands of people, hardly one endeavors for perfection. And of those
who are are trying to know, hardly one knows Krishna in Truth).

Where did you get this translation???? It is so loose it is practically
not there, and shows that a word-juggler will resort to anything to
bash the Vaisnavas.
A more literal translation is "Give up [parityajya] all [sarva] varieties of
religion [dharman] and surrender [saranam vraja] unto Me alone [mamekam].
(Here, "Me" is clearly referring to Krishna, since He is the speaker of this
verse). I [aham] will free [moksayisyami] you [tvam] from all sinful reactions
[sarva papebhyo]. Do not [ma] worry [sucah]."
In other words, the "strive for spiritual enlightenment" is there, but it is
through surrender to Krishna alone (mamekam saranam vraja). And one must give
up other concepts of religion -- real dharma is singular, not plural. Giving
up an institution that provides sadhu-sanga and leads one to perfect surrender
is never recommended.
