Arjun Singh blames ISI for Babri demolition
NEW TWIST TO BABRI DEMOLITION
Times of India, February 13, 1995
New Delhi: Expelled Congress leader Arjun Singh surprised many by claiming
today that he had never blamed Prime Minister PV Narsimha Rao for the demoli-
tion of the Babri Masjid. But an impression was created that the former HRD
minister, the former Cabinet Secretary S. Rajagopal adn former home secretary
M. Godbole would have to equally share the blame for not taking share the blame
for not taking timely and appropriate action to save the disputed structure at
Ayodhya on Dec. 6, 1992.
Mr Singh could have easily informed Prime Minister Rao directly in the
third week of November that year about the information he had received from a
source in Faizabad about the possibility of Pakistani agent-provocateurs
mingling with the kar sevaks to ensure that the disputed structure was
demolished so as to generate civil strife in the country.
Instead the seasoned politician chose to write a one-para letter to the
then home secretary on November 26, 1992 saying he was herewith sending
him a Hindi translation of a fax message received previous night from a
source in Faizabad for his information.
