A yojana, when used in purANic usage refers to a distance of
approximately 8 miles, though in some (later) astronomical works the
distance used is closer to 5 miles. In refernce to the rAmAyaNa, the
distance from the ocean to lANka was 800 miles. But we cannot just say
from the tip of madurai to eight hundred miles is the distance, as the
shore today is not the shore of that time. Alot of the land is now under
water that was south India. So first you must determine where to start
from, which you can do by studying various purANas and rAmAyaNa, but it
will take a lot of time to read through them all to get the information
you would need.
