I must disagree!!!
1. Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Karnataka have significant number of vegetarians.
2. Jains are vegetarians but vegetarianism did not originate with Mahavir
3. Most rishis were vegetarians.See Manumsmriti 5:15, 5:38 and 5:53 to cite a few.
