Kriya Yoga
Maybe some one here can answer a question for me.
All I really want to do is learn Kriya yoga techniques (alluded to, but
not explained, in Autobiography of a Yogi) to add to my meditation
practice. However, I’m frustrated because I would like to do that without
having to put up with negative “organized religion” rigmarole. Can anyone
give me any advice? Here are my disagreements:
1. Oath of fealty (aka “discipleship”)
Self Realization Fellowship ("SRF") requires signing a loyalty oath to the
“SRF line of gurus” before they will give the Kriya lessons. I don’t
believe in ghosts, so I have a real problem swearing allegiance to them.
However, I don’t want to just sign the thing with my fingers crossed
behind my back. Is there another way?
2. Years of “lessons”
I don’t want to have to spend years buying “lessons” before I can meditate
with Kriya. Is there a faster way?
3. Battling organizations
There seem to be several “churches” based on Yogananda and offering to
teach Kriya. (SRF is the one I’ve had contact with). However, they all
seem to be suing each other and engaging in generally infantile
mudslinging. Is it possible to learn Kriya techniques without being
forced to deal with an organized church?
