A comment on Alt.Hindu

I have been following the, discussions in Alt.hindu for
sometime. There seems to be a general tendency of the ppl here
to equate hinduism, with typical north indian diet, hindi language
( if the person is not a south indian bramhin ), and certain
aspects of popular north indian mythologial/historial stories ( Ramayana,
Mahavarata ). This was typified, in the Ramakrishna/ Vivekananda
debate.

It was sad to see that the debate whether we should eat Non-Veg
food or not. There are many hindus ( like the bengalis, sothern non-bramhins)
who ate meat and fish ( Ramakrishna + vivekananda + Chaytanya + etc
were bengalis ). So I tnink it is not relevant what popular behavorial
manners we take to be a hindu, but the universal philosophy abouth the truth.
The concept of sin is so cultural ( which in turn is very geographical )
that it is irrelevant. It is also dangerous to have such a concept of
sin, as it makes the religion instutionalised, which Hinduism tries hard
to to avoid.

The VHP/BJP/Bajrang Dal, probably are just trying that,
which is understandable, given the fact that then they will try to dominate
over the others. A quite unfortunate development in Northan politics,
which shows the failure of intellectuls from that part of the country.
Last 200 yrs they did not produce anyone as the same intellect as
Chaytanya , Ramakrishna, Vivekananda, and probably Shubhas Bose,
( I consider bose as a hindu intellectual as opposed to
Neheru, and the bunch). Gandhi was the only one in the race, but he never
had the intellect to combine modern world and existing India. Others
like Neheru, could not combine the mordern technological needs with
the philosophy and intellectul needs of India

Unfotunate for us all, we are out numbered, thats democracy. :)
