This statement is not true. Shri Krishna had emancipated 16000 women
held captive by the King of Kamarupa (Assam) and had resettled them
in Dwaraka. It is this gesture that provided Him the title "Bhoo-pati".
The "Bhoo" was left out, and only "pati" remained. The story is therefore
misinterpreted as Krishna having 16000 wives ...
