Bhagwad Gita: Verses 64 to 68: Comments on Ideal Man and Role of E GO

BG: Chapter 2: Verses 64 to 68 - Comments on Sthitaprajna & Role of EGO

Sthitaprajna (Ideal Person) has no attachment or aversion and has
the Purity of Spirit. Sthitaprajna attains the "WISDOM" which is free
from illusory sorrows. Bhagwan insists that Peace, happiness,
discriminating intelligence and concentration can be realized only by
freeing the mind from sensory perceptions.

Sthitaprajna implies realization of the "Absolute Reality," though
such realization may be possible, it can't be described. Geeta indicates
that sensory perceptions are the concrete wall between human and divinity.
Divinity can't be visualized without breaking the concrete wall. Sensory
perceptions create illusions of "joys, sorrows, likes and dislikes." The
word "EGO" in Vedanta, is condition that misconceives "SELF" with body,
mind and intellect. The eradication of this misconception (EGO) is
possible only through sadhana (spiritual practice). The role of "EGO" in
worldly life differs from its role in spiritual life. Ego means "self-
esteem," "pride," "vanity" etc. To lead a successful worldly life, self-
esteem is a positive virtue, but vanity is a negative quality. For
spiritual practice, EGO is the barrier and should be crushed.

Eight egoistic actions that are obstacles to peaceful worldly life
are classified. Avoidance of these actions has the potential to enhance
the spiritual life without sacrificing success in one's worldly life:

EGO 1: Emotion - Grief - Overreaction (Perceive emotions from sensory
perceptions that cause grief and reckless actions).

EGO 2: Exploitation - Greed - Oppression (Direct greedy actions that
oppresses and exploits others)

EGO 3: Exaggeration - Gimmick - Opportunism (Gain personal profits through
gimmicks and exaggeration of facts)

EGO 4: Expectation - Glory - Ornamental (Conduct useless actions that are
Glamorous and for personal glory).

EGO 5: Externalization - Grumble - Opinionated (Accuse others of one's
mistakes, complain and unduly adhering to one's own preconceived notions).

EGO 6: Embarrassment - Guilt - Oscillation (Develop unsteady mind filled
with guilt generated from disputed beliefs).

EGO 7: Extremism - Grudge - Opposition (Express extreme views and
animosity and organize hostile actions).

EGO 8: Empty-headed - Guesswork - Obnoxious (Exhibit irritating behavior
attributed to ignorance and preconceived notions)

                      " Have a Good Day "

"Truth is a pathless land, and you cannot approach it by any path
whatsoever, by any religion, by any sect. Truth, being limitless,
unconditioned, unapproachable by any path whatsoever, cannot be
organized; nor should any organisation be formed to lead or to
coerce people along any particular path." J. Krishnamoorthy
