Actually we are asked to revere our ownself first. From that, we should
spread it around - revere everything around us. Ultimately this leads to
revering the Almighty who is omnipresent.

Nobody is tormenting you. You are just working out your karma. God does
not punish. The thing you call torment is the fruit of your actions.
