Sacred Thread Ceremony (fwd)

Hello,
I am a Christian, unfamiliar with Hindu religion and culture, and have
been invited to the Sacred Thread Ceremony of some of our friends.
I would like to find out more about the customs and religious rites, of
which I believe this to be one of great significance, and ask that you
point me in the direction of how I may find out more about it all.
This Sacred Thread Ceremony is during a BHAGWATH
GYANYAGNA, the significance of which which I am also unfamiliar
and would like to learn more about. Any information (or source of
same) regarding this event would be appreciated, also.
