hi there,
Bertrand russell in one of his essays consistently questions the reason for
God to create the world? Further he suggests that even if God did create the
world and everything in the world is according to the Divine Plan, how can one
justify a five year old child dying of meningitis? Is there any argument for
this available in Gita or upanishads?
Radhakrishnan in his "Introductory Essay" of the Bhagavadgita does give an
explanation for the "presence of pain and imperfection".
to quote his exact words " The presence of pain and imperfections is traced not
to man's rebellious will but to a disharmony between the creative purpose of
God and the actual world. If suffering is traced to the "fall" of man, we
cannot account for the imperfections of innocent nature, for the corruption
that infects all life, for the economy of disease. The typical question, Why
is there cancer in the fish? cannot be avoided. The Gita points out that there
is a Divine Creator who imposes his forms on the abysmal void. Prakriti is the
raw material, the chaos out of which order is to be evolved, a night which is
to be illumined. In the struggle between the two, whenever a deadlock is
created, there is divine interference to to release the deadlock........."
i am sure this passage says somthing which would perhaps help explaining the
reason for the five year old child to die of meningitis, but I am having a very
hard time trying to understand the above passage to successfully explain the
question. Can someone give some insight in explaining the line ...." If
suffering is traced to the "fall" of man,......" and can this address the
meningitis problem?
Again any reference or reason (as quoted in upanishads or elsewhere) for God to
create the world will be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.
