To maintain their writ under the banner of Nizam-e-Mustafa, the Islamic
rule, it seems the Pak-sponsored terroristsin Kashmir as also in some
areas of Jammu can go to any extent of brutality.
Their latest such act of terrorising the people was the burning alive of
22-year old Shakeela of Raj Bagh, Srinagar.
Shakeela was reportedly divorced by her husband about two years ago under
threat of some mujahids. As she was being sexually abused by gun-toting
mujahids, she sought the protection of BSF men who brought her to Nari
Niketan in Jammu. But sometimes later Shakeela's mother Bano took
Shakeela back to her house ar Raj Bagh.
At Raj Bagh two mujahids, of the locality started harassing her and she
being good-looking was quite often taken by the mujahids to some unknown
destination for "recording her statement" and later let off.
But on February 21, two mujahids identified by a relative of Shakeela, as
Mohd. Yusuf and Mitha, took her to some unknown place. Later in the
evening, she was brought back, but before she could join her mother,
mujahids sprinkled petrol on her body and set her on fire. Several people
watched helplessly as flames went up around her body. To scare away the
bystanders the mujahids fired several shots and stayed there till the
helpless woman burned to death. The mujahids justify this act on the plea
that Shakeela was an "informer".
Though the perpetretors of this brutal act have identified, the police in
Srinagar have failed to arrest any of the guilty.
In Jammu the police arrested one Majid Goni, the son of a retired police
officer. Majid Goni hailing from the Doda district, is said to have
confessed his links with the terrorists. Not only this, the arrested
youth is said to have disclosed that he had gunned down some women
including, his sister Smt. Jugnu Goni, for not acting on the dictates of
the Mujahids.
