Music and Dance Extravaganza!!!!
If you have seen the latest India Tribune you are probably already aware
of this.
But if you have not be prepared for
A Music and Dance Extravaganza!
The Chicagoland based North South Foundation is sponsoring a
benefit concert featuring Sanjeev Ramabhadran at 7:00 PM on
Friday, March 24 at Taft High School. Ramabhadran's
performance will be followed by an inter-collegiate show
sponsored by several Chicagoland colleges at 9:30 PM, and a
Bhangra with DJ Tony T from Bhang 103.1 at 10:15. The North
South Foundation was formed in 1989 for granting scholarships to
top ranking under-privileged students in India. 150 scholarships
were given in 1994 and this year, the organization aims to grant
170, totaling more than $25,000 in scholarship money.
Ramabhadran, at the age of 20, has been a student of Indian
classical music for the last thirteen years under the tutelage of Sri
Ran Phatak, a composer in India. He has performed popular
songs from Indian films across the U.S. and is well-trained in
Western classical music as well. Ramabhadran recently traveled
to Bombay to record his debut album with well-known film singer
Kavita Krishnamurthy, slated for commercial release this April.
Ramabhadran is currently enrolled in the engineering program at
Princeton University. He will be accompanied by his brother,
Sachin, on drums and electronic percussion.
Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door, and $25 for VIP
seating. Taft High School is located at 5725 Natoma Ave in
Chicago, close to the Bryn Mawr and Nagle Ave intersection. For
