India has welcomed the prompt action taken by Nepal in disallowing a
proposed conference on Kashmir in Kathmandu next month. In a statement,
the Indian ambassador to Nepal, Mr K.V. Rajan, said the objectives of the
meeting are hostile to India, aimed at interfering in its internal affairs
and creating difficulties in the revival of the democratic process in
Jammu and Kashmir. AIR Kathmandu correspondent says Mr Rajan has been in
touch with the Nepalese leaders over the issue and met the foreign
secretary, Mr Kedar Bakth Shreshta, in Kathmandu this morning [29th
March]. Mr Shreshtha reiterated that the Nepalese soil will not be allowed
to be used for any activity that may harm the interest of India.
