Hands on Atlanta

Namaskaram,

This past Saturday, the Georgia Tech HSC chapter participated in
another Hands on Atlanta activity. This time we went to the ALPP
(Alternative Life Pathways Program) house to do some renovation work.
This home serves as a shelter for teenage girls who were battered or
involved in drugs or gangs. The goal of the program is to give these
girls the opportunity to make a fresh start with their lives by helping
them finish their high school education or get their GEDs and helping them
find jobs. This is a great chance for these girls because they are able
to live in a positive environment and are given moral support by the
resident counselors.

This is a good opportunity for our HSC chapter also. We worked with
other volunteer groups in the Atlanta community, so it was a good chance
for us to meet people from these other organizations.
Ultimately though, participation in these monthly volunteer
projects gives us the chance to practice what we preach during our gita
classes.

Our tasks included yard work, cleaning inside the house and
painting.

Take care,

Jayati
