A number of multi-national fast food chains including McDonalds,
Pizza Hut, Kentucky Fried Chicken and TGIF plan to open outlets in
India shortly. Indian NGO's and Environmental Groups are concerned
about the various impacts these new chains will have on the
environment, nutrition, viability of the local food industry, etc.
We would be grateful for any information that can help us make more
objective assessments of this type of activity. Data on average
production, sale, resource-use, including animals, water, energy
and packaging would be helpful. Second order impacts on land and
crop resources would be interesting.
We would particularly like to have information on the nutritional
values and harmful additives of the food preperations of such
chains. Wider impacts on natural resource-use would also help.
