(The source may have copy right.)New York: Evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in the recent hijacking of an Indian
Airlines plane and other terrorist activities is “overwhelming” and India has
provided “conclusive proof” of that, Indian Ambassador to the US Naresh
Chandra has said.Talking to mediapersons on Tuesday, he said terrorism emanating from Pakistan
was not Kashmir specific and that it effects had been felt worldwide including in
New York where world trade centre was bombed.“Even if the Kashmir issue were to resolved today, the Pakistani terrorism would
not stop,” he said. “The hijackers were Pakistanis, they sought release of Pakistani
terrorists and escaped into Pakistan along with released prisoners,” he said,
wondering what more of proof was needed to show Islamabad’s involvement in
the episode. He rejected the criticism of the Indian government’s handling of the hijacking crisis
saying that in such situations there are no clear cut solutions but options which are
often murky. The only thing that could be done was to select the best possible
option, he said.Asked on India’s inability to convince the US about Pakistan’s involvement,
Chandra said Washington required no convincing as there were several reports
from its own agencies detailing terrorists activities emanating from Pakistan. The only thing the US has not done under its law is to declare Pakistan a terrorist
State but the administration’s spokesmen have said the case was under constant
review, he said.‘Pak madrasas train terrorists’
New Delhi: India has charged Pakistan with converting its madrasas (religious
schools) into a training ground for ultras to unleash cross-border terrorism and
warned world leaders against this menace.Participating in a TV programme, India’s High Commissioner to Pakistan G
Parthasarathy said Islamabad’s design had spread its “tentacles far and wide” and
there was instance of a terrorist from Pakistan killing CIA officials. There are over
10,000 to 15,000 ‘so called’ madrasas in Pakistan, he said.Azhar’s taped (Anti India & US) speech
circulated in Kanpur (India)Lucknow: Audio tapes of fiery speeches by freed extremist Masood Azhar are
being aired in the communally sensitive city of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh where the
police has stepped up guard. It was not clear when exactly the tapes were made
although the police believe that they were brought into the State about four months
ago.“I don’t want to see the youth wasting their time in cricket or football, I am interested
in those who are willing to wield the AK-47, pistols and rocket launchers,” goes one
call by the Pakistani cleric. Azhar, who had been in prison since his arrest in 1994,
was released alongwith two other jailed extremists in a New Year’s-eve swap for
161 passengers and crew of a hijacked Indian Airlines plane.Azhar is associated with the Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, which was previouslyk nown as
the Harkat-ul-Ansar. He has surfaced in Pakistan after his release and has
reportedly made anti-India and anti-US speeches. The police said tapes of his
speeches were being systematically circulated among select audiences.Kanpur Range DIG Duleep Trivedi said, “Our men are on the job and I am confident
that they would be able to soon lay their hands on some of these tapes, which were
reportedly played at a select gathering in this city.“The police has reason to believe that only two tapes were received in Kanpur about
four months ago and multiple copies were made later. They were working on the trail
pointed by an informant, whoclaimed to have heard the tapes at a special gathering
recently. He told the police that “in his vitriolic speech, Azhar terms the US as Islam’s number
one enemy and India as the murderer and tormentor of Muslims in Kashmir.” The
tapes also hail the “martyrdom” of militants gunned down by security forces in
Afghanistan, Sudan, Algeria, Egypt and Kashmir. The police has also discovered
incriminating handbills praising Azhar and hailing the hijackers.
