Divine Descendance of Sikh Gurus

by Jaswinder Singh
(with excerpts from Bachitra Natak by Guru Gobind Singh)

Everyone has heard the quote in which Guru Gobind Singh Ji depicts Guru Nanak born into the Bedi dynasty.

"tin bedeean kee kul bikhe pragte Nanak rai,
sabh sikhan ko sukh deeo, jai(h) tai(h) bhai-e sahaa-e"

Well a few of the people on SCPu have adequately shown us the history of the Gurus and to what dynasty they came from. As everyone knows Sri Ram was from the Sun dynasty and Sri Krishan was from the Moon Dynasty. The Moon dynasty has been wiped out from face of this world, by the Curse of a Rishi, his name forsakes me at this moment. But the Sun dynasty continues on.

Sri Ram ji had two sons, one named Laoo (La-oo or Lavu). His brother was Kashoo.

Kashoo, became King of Kashpur ( Kasoor) and Laoo of Lavpur (Lahore). From their future progeny two Rajas,(Kings) stood out and ruled for a long time, named Kal Ket and Kal Rai...

Guru Gobind Singh Ji writes that both of them after along time ruling got ensnared in Maya, and fought against each other.

"Bahut Kal te Raj Kamaayo, Jaal Kaal te aNt fasaayo"

Kal Rai descendent of Laoo, in the fight took off to Sanod des (someone said that this was Banaras).. The king their eventually married him to his only daughter. Thus Guru Gobind Singh writes those living in Sanod Desh became known as Sodhis and their empire grew with each new generation.

What happened though, as their kingdom grew, Guru ji writes

"Dhan ar Bhoom puraatan bairaa,
jinkaa mooaa karat jag ghaira.
Moh baadh ahaNkar pasaaraa
kaam krodh keetaa jag sara".

As happens to this world all the time, and can be seen today, where people are fighting over money..., Guru Ji writes they also got ensnared in Dhan (money, wealth, etc), and started fighting amongst each other, but even so doing, some of them came into the Punjab and started a war against KalKet's progeny, and the Sodhis, the descendants of Kalrai, whose descends down from Laoo(Lavu) Won the battle this time.

"Lavee sarab jeete, kusee sarab haare,
bache je balee praan lai ke sidhaare,
chatar bed paTiyo keeyo kaas baasN,
Ghane barak keene tahaN hee nivaasN".

Thus the Sodhis were victorious, the others fled saving their lives...then those that fled, studied the Vedas (Beds in punjabi) and became known as the Bedis.

After along time, the Bedis became famous all over for their knowledge of the Veds, the Sodhis sent for them to read the Veds to them. After reading the First three, the Sodhis became so humble minded (vairagee ho gae), that they gave their kingdom to the Bedis, who on this occasion blessed them with MUKTI (salvation) as the following quote depicts.

"Bedee BhaDhe PrasaNn raj kaih paaikai,
det bhayo bardaan heeai hulsaa-i-kai
jab Nanak Kal mai hum aan kahaai haiN
ho jagat pooj kar tohi parampad pai haiN."

We see that the Sodhis were blessed by the Bedis who said that when Guru Nanak ji comes into the world in Kalyug that, by your humble service you will get Mukti (Parampad pai haiN) literally meaning reach the highest state of salvation.

Well hence settled once and for all I hope!!!!!:)
The descendence of the Gurus:-) people save this and post it on the newsgroup ever so often.

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji
(The last and eternal Guru for all Sikhs, the embodiment of Gods word, as spoken, lived and taught by our 10 living Gurus...within it is the light to illuminate the soul, the knowledge to travel this destructive world. Within is the melody sung harmoniously with Nature, within is the depictions of Gods Might, within is the secret to see the real Truth... The Truth of Gods essence and the purpose of ones life. Those who will search with a humble mind shall find such I swear.)
