Posted by Satinder on December 28, 2001 at 07:43:25: Reading the articles and knowing that they are of one person's views and not 100% facts and questioning them and reading history I can say that there is or should be no hostility between Sikhism and Hinduism. What has brought differences and friction between the two people is modern day politics. Politics created by the British, the Congress Party, the Akali, etc. These politically issues have turned this into a battle of religion. I am not a religious scholar. If history shows a link between Hinduism and Sikhism that is great. There should be no defense against that. But growing up as a Sikh I must say I never was introduced to the teachings of Hinduism or read the Gita. If Sikhism is part of Hinduism shouldn't I have? I am sure Hindu children have not been taught of the 10 Sikh gurus or the teachings of the Granth Sahib. There are people who will insist till there last breathe that Sikhism is a part of Hinduism and others who will say it is a seperate religion. I agree on the fact that it is not important but politically it may be. What is important that both religions identify and respect each other and believe in Ram and/or Wahaguru. Using politics as a defence or means to prove is wrong.
