Dear Reshma,
The answer would be in the ideals that have been enshrined in us since our
beginnings in life. The teachings that we learn at the feet of our parents
and the values that are imbibed by us throughout our lives act as our own
guides.
> ie. how do the youth of the 21st century handle issues over
>abortion, euthenasia etc?
While abortion may be a practice that may not be comforting to many, it is
still a matter of a woman's body, and her choice. We should leave it to a
woman to decide about this issue. Of course, we must encourage her to have
the baby insstead of aborting it, but should her reasons be compelling and
her mind set on it, we should provide her the facility to get it done.
Euthanasia is also something that should be treated with the same kind of
care and tolerance. A person normally opts for euthanasia, only when he or
she does not intend to prolong his/her suffereing on account of accidents,
or some reaons. In that case, again, while we must, as a matter of duty be
in a position to counsel the person on trying to safeguard his/her life, a
complelling circumstance as may be their case should be allowed to give up
their lives.
>And how can we still maintain ( or can we ) our hindu philosophy within a
>rapidly modernizing world?
Hindu philosophy is a way of life, which allows a human being to choose a
path of life, based on his/her own experiences. There is no one path to a
gol. Hinduism is so great a religion on account of this. It gives a right
to an individual or group of individuals to choose a calling of their own
and provides them with the means to achieve their calling.
