In a previous article, vijia@pop.jaring.my (SV Singam) tells a few tales
and then adds:

I appreciate that open declaration. Not all who spread rumours are so
forthright. Any reader of the Net discovers how carpers love to spread
tales, but carpers are not the only persons who spread rumour. I find it
is wise, _before_ passing on any story, to first confirm the tale oneself.
The moment a tale is heard, I ask if the teller knows that as fact first
hand. If not, I seek out two witnesses who themselves observed the event
and agree on all the details. If such evidence is lacking, one might
regard such tales as fables.
Now fables can be quite entertaining; however, fables can as easily
make for gossip as well as for hagiographic hyperbole. Thus, one does
well to distinguish between fable and fact.
I think the tales told by SV Singam are fables, since I know of no
one who has ever heard Sri Sathya Sai Baba say he is or will be `the
second coming of Jesus Christ' nor heard him ever claim to be Kalki.
