I'm a devout hindu...i'm 17 and have played an active role in my
religion and still do
..there are doubts that the drinking Ganesha is caused by "cappillary
effects" of the material the statue is made of. Since i am a science
student i can understand this proposal....metals/stones/glass all can
present cappilary actions....Perhaps even the "Weeping Mother Mary
Statue" was too caused by cappilary effects.
What confirms <to mee> that this was caused by cappilary effects is that
after the milk is absorbed/drunk, later the milk was found seeping out
from the bottom or wherever...no foul play of course BUT the milk had to
go somewhere and it did....this proves the scientific theory....To
me...if 'twas a divine occurence; when the milk was drunk, that should've
been the last we saw of the milk.

But my point is....SO WHAT! Do we as Hindu's have to rely on
miracles/pseudo miracles to confirm our faith to our religion? I do not
think we (and/or any other serious faith) base themselves on the
occurence of miracles...this just serves to make us shallow pilgrims.
Life itself is a miracle...Nature is a miracle...our entire existance is
a miracle. It seems people ignore/take for granted these miracles and
attribute smaller/less significant events as miracles...perhaps this is
human nature but i think we should unlearn this trait.

In the end all...i dont go around telling everyone who believes in
the drinking Ganesha the scientific evidence that it may not be what we
think 'tis (a miracle)...since I also feel that; If it's not hurting
anyone and doing good by bringing people closer to Hinduism (or closer to
Religion and belief in God on the whole)..GREAT! Personally it helped get
an atheist freind of mine to sincerely visit a temple on his own
whim, rather than being dragged there by his parents, and now, with this
miracle and my constant <but mature> "bringing up" of the topic: "Is or
Is there not a God?"...my freind at least has begun the road back to
dharma.
These are just my thoughts which I wanted to share...thanx for reading
them.....l8r
