Re: Aryans

The spirit behind this posting is well taken.

There probably are textbooks that contain some (mis)information
about the issue of Aryans and Dravidians. However, I did not study
such books while in school in India that contained:
Ravana was Dravidian king or that Rama and Ravana war was
	between the 2 races.
	OR
	idol worship is inferior
	OR
	Aryans is a foreign race.
Nor are the textbooks same as they were 50 years ago.

What I remember is
Rama traveled all across India to the South to fight
the demon Ravana. He fought other bad kings and demons
	occasionally.
	and
Idol worship came from Dravidians and Nature worship came from
Aryans.
	and
Origin of Aryans has many theories. Even the most patriotic
Lokmanya Tilak had written a book on this subject.

The existence of Dravidians and Aryans and their assimilation into
each other's culture was discussed. None of us in the right mind is
going to believe anything about Rama or Ramayana other than what is
in the book.

There may be a few remnants of colonial culture in India and they
should be removed as aberrations. Giving them importance any more
that of routine checkup would be enhancing their importance.
Let's stick to Vedas, Upnishads, Ramayana, Mahabharat, Gita and all
the other great Indian books as the real source of inspiration and
beliefs.

There is no doubt that the loss of some political power to British
in the late 19th and early 20th century caused injunction of biased
theories and rewriting of some books, but I would not like to
enhance the importance of their rule in any way. Let's separate the
mischiefs (attempted brainwashes - but I doubt the Indian/Hindu
psyche is so fickle to get brainwashed easily it has survived
thousands of years) from our real inspirations and books and basic
tenets.

I am not trying to defend any of the theories put forth by the
authors from 19th century. They are in all likelihood biased to
help establish British and should be dismissed as such, especially
while teaching our youngsters.
