Dear Friends:
If you follow the origins or "births" of the various manifestations of
God (including Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva; ref chapter 10, SBG), you will
find that they are born of each other, each is the parent and each is the
offspring. The Vedas are full of such examples. I believe that the
Shvetasvetara Upanishad describes the origin of the three Purushas we are
discussing here, BrahmA, Vishnu and Maheshvara. If I remember right, the
verse says that all three were born out of Om. I think that I will be
able to find the verse, if you are interested.
The verses which describe Lord Shiva offering prayers to Lord Vishnu or
vice-versa do not establish the superiority of one over the other.
Because, in the ultimate anlaysis, God Himself is the worshipper,
and is worshipping Himself. All that apparently looks otherwise is His
lila. I would like to draw your attention to the famous verse from the
Srimad Bhagavad Gita and have you ponder over the implication of it.
BrahmArpanam brahmahavi brahmAgnau brahmanAhutam
Brahmaiva tena gantavyam brahmakarmasamAdhinA.
With best regards,
Dhruba.
