Doesn't this interpretation introduce duality in Ishvara and is
therefore to be rejected (based on "ekameva advitiya brahma",
"akaayam" reference in Isha, etc). It's true that some Puraanas
like Brahma-Vaivarta do use such terminology to refer to Krishna's
leaving the Earth, but the Bhaagavatam doesn't accept a distinction
between Krishna's body when He appeared on earth and in His
eternal abode, since "tattvam yaj jnanam advayam...", etc. So,
Krishna just left the Earth in His same body, according to His
own will.

Most of the personalities in the Mahabhaarata were either incarnations
of the Lord, incarnations of the Lord's associates, demigods, demons,
etc.

By Bhaktivedanta, I assume you mean A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada?
He didn't translate Mahaabhaarata, but some of his disciples (Hridayananda
dasa Goswami et al) have worked on one; I don't think it's complete,
though.
