Hindu texts question

Is there a reference in Hindu texts to man's
obligations to the earth, or to natural ecosystems?

An example of what I am looking for is the following
quote from the book of Genesis in the Bible:

"So God created man... male and female he created them.
And God said unto them, ... replenish the earth."

and again later...

"And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them,
Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth."

The directive "replenish the earth" can be taken to
mean that man (or Noah and his sons) are to nurture
the life found on earth, maintaining diversity,
repairing damage done by polution, etc.

SO MY QUESTION IS:

Are directives in a similar vein recorded
   in the Hindu texts?

Thanks for your consideration of my question.
