I always believed that there is no ceremony of conversion to become
Hindu. One simply chooses to adopt a lifestyle that includes a Hindu
form of worship or meditation.
However, on this newsgroup, I have read that there are rituals
available to formally convert to Hinduism. I get the impression that
some available Vedic rituals are being adapted for this purpose to
satisfy the emotional needs of a people who grew up with the idea that
one has to formally embrace a religion to belong.
BTW, please realise that there is no single religion of Hinduism. The
term refers to a complex mix of beliefs, rituals and practises of the
people of India. Many people have tried to define Hinduism, but to do
that only places it into a pigeonhole, an indignity that is
undeserved.
A better term to use is Sanathana Dharma.
Peace and blessings.
