Dear Sir,
Mr M. F. Husain's indifference to the feelings of Hindus
is very much offending. It is indeed unfortunate that
this saddistic painter who painted a bull by name Kaqbul
raping Madhuri, shown the great God Hanuman as a Rakshasa
and Draupadi in nude is getting support in English Press
out of sheer spite for Hinduism. It also shows a down-
ward trend of ethics of our fourth estate.
Mind you, the English Press is very careful in touching
any subject as regards Islam. Muslim society is famous
for its razor edged susceptibility and the press takes
care to keep it honed by treating them with extreme care
and tremendous respect. Hindu society on the other hand
is green pasture. Any man who criticises or jeers at
Hindu gods or religion in good English is bound to get a
berth in English press nearly as a right.
It will not be out of place here to mention that during
British times,one Gujarati newspaper "Chitradnyandarpan"
was regularly printing features on great people with
photographs. In the month of October 1851, it published
an article on Prophet Mohammed with a copy of his photo-
graph from an American Journal. Some miscreants pasted a
copy of it on the Masjid near the market. This was
sufficient. without going into reasoning or discussions
or investigation (as Hindus are being asked now), Muslims
started attacking Parsees and killed a number of them.
This riot created terror in all residents and it lasted
for more than one full year. Now with the freedom of
artistic expression inscribed on their standards, can our
English Press ask the saddistic Maqbull to use his tal-
ents(?) in painting some significant events in the life
of Prophet Mohammed? In fact, I dare the English Press
to show their great love for freedom by doing so. It is
also pertinent to note that when he paints his own mother
or Mother Teresa, they are fully clad. Does not he send
a message that his so called art is a stunt where he can
insult the Hindus with immunity and is scared to touch
Islam or Christianity by a barge pole ?
Yours sincerely
(G. V. Ashtekar)
