With such a clear cue, I can't resist giving this amusing story:
It is said that when Raghunatha Siromani, who was blind in one eye,
came to study at the feet of the great nyayaiyika Paksadhara Misra,
the latter greeted him thus:
akhandalah sahasraksah
virupaksas tri-locanah
anye dvi-locanah sarve
ko bhavan eka-locanah
"Akhandala (Indradeva) has a thousand eyes, Virupaksa (Siva) has
three; all the others have two eyes. Who are you, sir, with only
one?"
At this, the pandita must have fairly bristled, but not enough to
silence him; without missing a beat, he responded:
yo 'andham karoty aksimantam
yas ca balam prabodhayet
tam evadhyapakam manye
tad anye nama-dharinah
"Whoever can give sight to the blind, and can awaken within a mere
boy the quest for knowledge, HIM I condsider to be a true
teacher--the rest simply bear that name."
