ARTICLE : Press Release from VHP's President about Amarnath Tragedy

                  VISHVA HINDU PARISHAD

PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED BY SHRI V. H. DALMIA,
            PRESIDENT - VISHWA HINDU PARISHAD

New Delhi, Sept 5 : In the wake of the tragedy that
befell on the pilgrims to the Holy Cave of Amarnath,
along with the heart rending account of the callous
attitude of the civil authorities, which is beyond human
comprehension, the only silver lining that has appeared
is that the local population, even though some of them
were Muslims, did rise to the occasion and rendered all
possible help and assistance to the stranded pilgrims.
This was real secularism in action. Human consideration
far out-weighed the Hindu-Muslim divide, which is being
propagated by the leaders of the various political
parties. The example of real brotherhood at the time of
need came to the fore.

Our politicians for their own selfish ends, are mainly
interested in dividing the society, instead of uniting,
and are following the same example of the British-`Divide
and Rule'. I take this opportunity to congratulate my
Muslim brethren of Kashmir who have set a real example of
true secularism.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad is really striving to achieve this
very objective of uniting the society, instead of
dividing, and we would like to publicly honour those
Muslim households who have rendered such a yeoman service
to their Hindu brethren on pilgrimage, at the calamitous
hour of need.

No religion preaches division but instead preaches unity.
Human behavious and service to his fellow-brethren at the
hour of need is the basic philosophy of every religion.

I would like again to reiterate at the cost of repetition
that we greatly appreciate and adore the spirit of
brotherly feelings depicted by the concerned Muslim
families, and that the Hindus will not be found wanting
an reciprocating such gestures.

All religious and caste conflicts can come to a happy end
if the national leaders, the media and the man who matter
in moulding public opinion, propagate these virtues in
the name of humanity and try to bring people together.
But will they?

We salute the Indian Army-both officers and jawans who
are famous for their chivalry and who rendered such
yeoman service and assistance to the stranded pilgrims.
Their magnificent work and bravery was really responsible
for saving so many lives.
