REQUEST : Mahabharata and Questions
Namaste,
recently a few questions were posted on mahabharata and none of the
hindu netters have replied.(probaly they might have emailed)
I am trying to comprehend the message for his questions.
(I may be completely wrong and I beg apologies for hurting sentiments).
Before I deal with Mahabharata, I need to explain a little bit about our
puranas.
Puranas were written around simple truths, but adding strong colors,
music and sound. Unfortunately we get caught in the music, sound and colors,
instead of getting the truth.
Puranas were written by people like us. Who are creative enough with a
definitive purpose of :
resolving some philosphical questions
sending some good message (Sahityam Sah=good)
making the reader feel good
(rember there were no other major entertainments during those times)
how to follow dharma (whether it is right or wrong)
being a good human being
developing Bhakti
etc.,
Many claim that Vyas wrote all the 18 puranas.
(he is better then Shakspere), but just as Lenardo Darvinci hasn't painted
all of his famous works (some by his students yet they credits to darvinci),
so does it MIGHT have happened with Veda Vyasa.
There were many Vyasas in the history of India and it was pretty usual
for Indians to give the credit to some one else.
But who ever wrote the Puranas, they have become part of Indian Life and
Philosopy.
Question 1) why did Dritharashtra, Bhisma and Kamsa (i believe) receive
moksha,
but not Arjuna even though he received all the GjYana from Krishna.
Dritharashtra received moksha becuase he did penance in the end of his life
and he is a good man in general.
(which father in this world wouldn't think of sucess of his son, whether he is
good or bad. He also advised Duryodhana to stop his rivalary with his cousins
many times.)
Bhisma ia a TRUE Karma Yogi just like Janaka.
He stood by his word and the Bruthya Dharma (Dharma of Servant).
He was a loyal worker for Duryodhana.
He also had the vision of Vishwarupa of Shri Krishna.
(he could see him gracefully and enjoyed the vishwarupa).
Kamsa was one of the brothers of Jaya and Vijaya who were the gatekeepers
of Shri Maha Vishnu.
It was the last birth in which he has to fight the Lord.
Arjuna was not actually drwan by pity and sympathy.
He was rather ignorant and was drawn by fear on seeing the large array
of battle ships and army.
Our merciful lord hypnotised him and made him perform his duty.
In this hypnosis we received the greatest gift of Shrimad Bhagavat Gita.
Arjuna begs Krishna to come and show his simple form instead of the complex
Vishwarupa as he couldn't see him even when he gets the divine vision.
(I haven't understood why).
Probabaly he may not be mentally ready unlike Bhisma and Dritharahstra.
More over Arjuna behaves as an ordinary king after the battle.
He hasn't imbibed the greatest knowledge of Gita within him.
he asks krishna to teach Gita once more but krishna doesn't.
Arjuna weeps for Abhimanyu just like ordinary father unlike a Gyjani.
(the above incidents show that hearing knowledge or seeing divine vision
doesn't assure moksha.
grasping and following the highest knowledge leads to moksha.
Aren't we hearing the Gita regulary.
Are we going to get Moksha.:-)
(may be or may not be))
As well, Arjuna represents the Nara part and lord krishna is the Narayana
part.
There is another purana which explains this and I can't go into the details
here.
(just like the StarTrek Voyager is related to another StarTrek:-))
I forgot the other questions, but if some one reposts, I might try to anser.
I will conclude with the essence of Puranas.
Ashtadasa PuranaSya Vedasya Vyasasya Vachanam Dvayam:
Parompakam maha punyjam
Papasya Para Peedanam
unfortunately all simple things look too complicated in this world,
and complicated things look simple.
