I am an art student trying to incorporate my cultural background into my
paintings. I am most interested in the subject of the evolution of the
various marriage customs ,especially south Indian. I am also not able to
get any information about the meaning and development of the mangalsutra.
Since this is such a graphic symbol of a married woman in Indian society,
this is an important aspect to my study. Does anybody have any information
about this subject or any hints as to what kind of books I can look up?
Eventually I want to concentrate on what these customs and symbols mean to
a modern hindu woman. I would really appreciate any feedback.
