REQUEST : Dating of the Mahabharata war?
I remember reading an issue of Science Today (Times of India publication) many years
ago regarding attempts to date the Mahabharata war.
The process included various methods such as examining the list of 'rajyas' (kingdoms)
listed in the Mahabharata and working out when they all existed, to analysing the
eclipses mentioned therein (such as the one which was 'caused' by Krishna to enable
Jayadratas death) and working out their time of occurence. Another attempt was
archeological, regarding the dating of the sunken city of Dwaraka (fragments purportedly
found under the sea of Gujarat) which the Mahabharata mentions as engulfed by the
sea following the destruction of the Yadava race. The dates suggested range from
1400 B.C to 800 B.C.
I wonder if anyone has more upto-date info in this matter as I am very keen on the topic.
