Dear John,
I am trying to explain your question on rat goddess. The fact is that there is no rat goddess
in Hinduism as far as I know. But there is a temple in India where the people pray and
worship rat. The temple is also the home of thousands of rats. People there offer food
to the rats and some even eat the same food consumed by the rats. This temple
actually relates to the vehicle of Lord Ganesa which is the rat. For what reason they
worship the rat is unknown for truth. It maybe the same as the aryans worship the cow
due to the association with Lord Krishna.
I know i have not explain it in full at all but it may help somewhat. I would like to read a more
better explanation from someone else.
