Do stories from ancient Indian mythology have any application to our
everyday life? Can they show us how to live our lives in a more relaxed,
peaceful and harmonious way? Can we learn how to integrate the spiritual
values embedded in these great myths int o our everyday lives?

The answer to these questions is a resounding YES, says Rajshree Patel,
one of the, spiritual leaders of Ved Vignan Mahavidyapeeth or The Art of
Living Foundation, as it is known in the West. During her upcoming visit
to Washington DC from May 8 to May 27 , Rajshree Patel will be giving a
number of discourses on varied topics of interest at temples in the
metropolitan Washington and Baltimore area. Rajshree Patel is a
spellbinding storyteller, a captivating and dynamic speaker who now
travels around the world as a spiritual teacher. With humor, wisdom and
practical insight she plumbs the depths of ancient Indian mythology and
symbolism. Parents are especially encouraged to bring their kids and
teenagers, who would benefit tremendously by obtaining insight
into their heritage from a gifted speaker.

Many of us grew up in India hearing mythological stories -- Krishna
stole butter and played on his flute, Rama slew the demon Ravana; and
Shiva and Parvati asked their sons to participate in a competition as to
who could travel around the world in th e shortest time. But, do we know
what these stories mean-- what they symbolize?

We go to the temples quite often. We see many deities in different
colors, sitting in different postures. Have you ever wondered or asked
what is the practical meaning behind all of them?

Why are Lord Vishnu, Lord Rama, Lord Krishna, Lord Shiva blue in color?
What is the meaning behind the Sudarshan chakra, conch, lotus flower and
mace which Lord Vishnu is holding in four hands.
What is the significance behind Radha being older than Krishna?
Why does Lord Ganesha have a missing tusk and a mouse as a friend?
Why does Goddess Lakshmi sit on the flower floating on water whereas
Goddess Saraswati sits on a stone holding a veena?

Many questions arise and when you listen to these answers they are so
amazing, so deep, so beautiful.

So, come and acculturate yourself back to your roots at these special
lectures. These lectures will be followed by celestial flute music by
Philip Fraser. Philip Fraser plays Hindustani ragas on his bamboo flute.
Both Philip and Rajshree studied under Sri Sri Ravishankar, a spiritual
master from South India
