Re: HSC and women
Giri-ji:
I have not said anywhere that you in particular have said that
women and low--caste people cannot attain salvation. There is
no intention to flame another.
1) I do not have a disagreement with the other parts of the
Brahma Sutra or with Shankaras Advaita Philosophy.
I am just trying to say that the statements
from Shankara's Brahma Sutra about women and low--caste people and non
twice--born people are in direct contradiction with the
Hindu philosophy of the soul being devoid of measure.
2) The reason given by Shankara are in contradiction with
other well established aspects in Hinduism such as
i) Most Hindus worshiping Krishna a low--caste God.
If low--caste people are walking creamatorums
(according to Shankara) then why is it people worship Krishna.
ii) If women in general should not be allowed to recite the
vedas (i.e. they do not possess the requisites for doing so, not
worhty of it), then why is it a section of the Hindu's actually
worship thee female Godess (Lalitha , Devi Ubasagam).
Point is because Shankara is still human, he is capable of making
mistakes (albeit rare) and the Bhrama Sutra being the creation of
a human has to analysed and reasoned with before being accepted.
This will be my last posting on this topic also.
