brAhmana (RV 10.114.8)
Dear Friends:
Here is a definition of the word brAhamana, a derivative of the root
brih.h (to grow or expand). Sri AnirbAn writes:
'brahma' in brAhmana refers to the expansion of consciouness. This
expansion happens upon the descent of the Divine. Wintnessing this
arrival of the Divine in the earth, sky and heaven, consciouness ascends
among mortals. This is described as 'chimaya-pratyaksha' of brahman.
When this happens, a human becomes a kavi, and in the consciousness,
arise vAk. yavad.h brahma vishhThitam.h tavatI vAk.h (RV 10.114.8). All
mantras are arisen, and in the expanded consciousness, arise vAk. The
expression of the vAk makes a person rishi or brahmA or sumedhA (10.125.5).
With best regards,
Dhruba.
