Cremation vs. Burial

I was recently reading an article on cremation and burial. It stated that the
Hindus were probably the only major religious group to cremate the dead, while
the others mostly practised burial. The reasons given were that, the
Christians, Muslims and the other such Judaic religions believed that on the
Day of Judgement, the dead (those who "believed") would rise from their graves
and attain salvation while the rest would be damned to hell etc. etc. ,
whereas the Hindus knew that the body was merely crude matter and that
cremation was the best way to dispose of it. Salvation was a matter regarding
the soul, not the body. Does anybody have any further comments to add?
