Re: ARTICLE : Who decided that all vaishnavs are not hindus?
Is Vaishnava considered to be a religion? It is not stated
anywhere in SRV FAQ that vaishnava is a religion.
If Vaishnava is not a religion can we have vaishnava's who are
hindu, christian or muslim? However Hinduism only would sanction
the worship of Vishnu. Christianity and Islam would not sanction it.
If Vaishnava is considered to be a religion then do Vaishnavas
in India call themselves to belong to the Vaishnava religion and
not to the Hindu religion?
Does any Vaishnava in India for example fill out his religion as
Vaishnava ( and not Hindu ) in any official form, Bio-data etc?
As far as Christianity goes Protestants, Catholics etc. are viewed only
as christians and not as being separate from christianity.
The general argument for not all Vaishnavaites being hindu is that hinduism
is not a well defined religion. But hinduism is recogonised as a religion
and it is generally known what religious beliefs one has or one claims to
have make him a hindu.
So either Vaishnava should separate out from hinduism or be a part of it.
However if Vaishnava is considered as a philosophy these problems would not
arise.
