They would have to be analyzed on a case-by-case basis. In some cases,
(Naarada comes to mind) anger is feigned so that a curse will be pronounced
which is ultimately beneficial to the cursed (Naarada cursed Raavana to be
killed by Raama, for example). But there are other cases of sages who get
angry who did so because their saadhana was imperfect (due to meditation on
impersonal Brahman, for example). Anyway, it just depends on the case.
